This award says ‘Keep fighting!’

My second nomination for the Liebster Award is spurring me on in the fight against domestic abuse.

A huge thank you to the inimitable Teela Hart for generously nominating me for my second Liebster Award. I received my first Liebster as a blogging newbie. In the months since, I’ve learned so much about this wonderful, supportive Word Press community.

For this, I’m enormously grateful to everyone who has taken time to contribute. Domestic abuse is a global epidemic affecting millions worldwide. Stigma – fuelled by a widespread lack of understanding – helps keep people trapped in abusive relationships. By sharing our experiences, we are helping to deconstruct those chains.

Please keep fighting the good fight, friends!

My Q&A

Liebster Award

1. Who do you write for?
I write for anyone affected by domestic abuse. I write for myself, to improve my understanding of what happened to me – and to assist in my recovery. I believe domestic abuse matters to everyone, so I hope to play a part in improving understanding and raising awareness.

2. If the internet went down would you still continue to write?
Yes. Writing helps me work through and make sense of my experiences.

3. Does having an audience feel important to you and for your blog?
Absolutely. Domestic abuse thrives in silence. Open discussion is the best cure.

4. Are you finished designing your blog?
Never – I’m always looking for ways to improve.

5. Would you advertise more if you could?
If I had a budget, yes! However, nothing is more valuable than interesting, original content.

6. Have you ever told a lie on your blog?
No.

7. What type of blogs do you like?
Blogs that are honest, authentic and either teach me something or make me laugh are sure-fire winners for me.

8. If you could have a dinner party with 10 famous figures dead or alive who would they be?
Generally speaking, I’m bored speechless by  today’s ‘celebrities’. However, inspirational figures that I’d love to chat with include: Nelson Mandela, Anne Boleyn, Khalil Gibran, J.K. Rowling, Isaac Newton, Socrates, Emily Brontë – who gave the world the deranged Heathcliff – and Michelle Obama. The brave Jahméne Douglas. Oh, and the gorgeously intellectual Prof. Brian Cox could sit opposite me, anytime.

9. Are you proud of your blog or is it a secret?
I blog anonymously, for safety reasons and so that I can be painfully honest without fear of worrying my nearest and dearest.

10. Do you think blogging awards are motivating or depressing?
Anything that allows us to find new bloggers, and motivate each other has to be a good thing.

11. Name one person who has made a significant impact on your life.
There are many I could name here. My mother shows me everyday what it is to be strong, and to love deeply. But the single most momentous force for good in my life is my beautiful child.

  3. Thank you so much for nominating me. I am afraid I haven’t had time to put up the awards I have been given and forwarded them on – time is at a premium and I will one day. Keep up the good work on your blog and the more of us that shine a light on domestic abuse of all times – the brighter it will shine and maybe the rest of the world will learn about it.

    • You’re very welcome frogstale, and I know just what you mean about lack of time. There’s so much more I’d do if I could. There’s still so much to do in raising much-needed awareness. Keep up the great work on your blog!

  4. Thank you! I did not know there was such an award, & I am pleased that speaking out on the issue of domestic violence is considered serious enough to get an award. One thing I would love about receiving this award is my daughter’s pride in me, should she find out. I will try to find out how to nominate others. I truly appreciate your blog, & but I am sorry you’ve been put through so much hurt.
